Our board recently completed our annual strategic planning retreat. This year was particularly special, because we had other work sessions leading  up to it so that we could complete a 5 year strategic plan. (We’ll be publishing that plan to the entire membership soon.) Our focuses are in 4 areas:

    1. Informing Consumers about the Buy Local Message
    2. Educating & Engaging Members
    3. Advocating for our Members
    4. Building Capacity & Infrastructure

The B-to-B committee and the Ambassador/Membership Engagement committees fall under “Educating and Engaging Members.” The board leaders for those committees (Lance Minnis, Chris Vessels and Jordan Clemons) recently met to discuss how to work together towards the goals in this area.  Between the committees, there are 6 major/ongoing projects that we undertake:

Louisville Local Business Expo

Membership Mapping Project (with Renewal Thank Yous)

Neighborhood Captains

Indies Connect Month (formerly Connectober)

Ambassador Program (new member welcome calls & greeters at member events)

Member Summit (this is brand new)

Our plan is to have both of our committees get together as one on a quarterly basis. Then we will have 2-3 subcommittees divvying up the projects listed above, who will meet on their own in between. (The quarterly meeting will be 20-30 minutes at the start for the whole committee, then we’ll divide into our subcommittees to finish up.) You can continue in the same roles/projects you’ve had before. We’re just structuring things a bit differently now so we can build capacity.
