Grab a lunch and join us for our first LIBA Lunch 'N Learn Event where we will hear from NAMI Louisville. NAMI Louisville will provide a presentation centering around language and phraseology to use or not use when referring to or speaking to someone with a mental health condition. It will help people to choose different language in general as well, such as eliminating phrases like "she's crazy" or "he's nuts" from our everyday interactions. We often say these things in jest without thinking about the real implications. We will also dispel myths about mental illness from portrayals we often see in media and film.
About NAMI:
NAMI Louisville is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We strengthen families and individuals affected by mental illness through education, support, and advocacy. We have been serving the community for over 40 years. NAMI Louisville offers a variety of education classes, support groups, and presentations for both the person directly affected by mental illness and their families. All of our general programming is available at no cost to the participant.
Stigma-Free Workplace:
In 2019 NAMI Louisville launched its Stigma-Free Workplace Initiative - a partnership aimed at eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness in the workplace and the community. These efforts have proven to increase retention and reduce absenteeism while promoting a more compassionate, inclusive, and diverse workforce. Providing specific resources for mental health services also creates a more sustainable work environment which, for employers, will have a positive impact on your bottom line. Each partnership is unique and we will tailor it to meet the needs of your individual business or organization.
